After 3 months of no news, I'm happy to announce that the Q4Max team have released an update!
The latest update, v0.80, is the latest update since almost 5 months ago and includes many fixes, tweaks and additions. AnthonyJ recently mentioned how it is easier to concentrate on the project without id software releasing updates every-so-often.
"Its also been nice for me to be able to delay a q4max release until "its ready" and attempt bigger features, rather than have to tie in with a release from id. Some of the things in q4max 0.80 couldn't possibly have been done during the 1.4.x release period due to the need to release regularly, at relatively short notice." (AnthonyJ).
To take a good long look at all the changes, go to the Q4Max website here. But the most noticeable changes for me are:
SuperHud: This new system allows you to easily to create custom HUD layouts, and gives a significant boost to framerate - typically increasing FPS by 25%.
Multiplayer Bots
Menu Restructure: The menus have been significantly restructured
As noted above, a interesting addition for Q4Max 0.80 is the inclusion of Multiplayer Bots! Something a lot of players have been waiting a very long time for. AnthonyJ explains more: "Our Artificially Intelligent friends have reached the point where we are happy to list them as a feature. In addition to basic navigation skills, they understand some complex concepts like timing armors and dodging their opponent's fire. There are always ways bots can be improved, but hopefully you'll enjoy them at this point.". You can download Q4Max's bot capability from Q4.jolt here. For documentation on how to use the bots, go to the Q4Max wiki.

Quakecon 2007 is on the way, with registrations opening 19th of July at 00:00 BST
Quakecon has mentioned it's prize money for this years tournaments and they're not too bad!
Registration for the tournament begins at midnight on the 19th of July for those who want to go! This year it's free and BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer).
Toxiq is back on form...without av3k standing in his way
It wasn't too long since we reported that toxic (toxiq) had lost his first major q4-tournament against av3k in the finals of the WSVG lan.
Now it seems toxiq has got his form back, by winning WSVG Dallas. The championship has clashed with the ESWC, which is where av3k was at the time of play - meaning we weren't treated with another toxiq vs. av3k final.
Being honest, it was more of a one-sided affair. Toxiq managed to go through every map with little trouble, it seems the only man who can challenge him is young-an av3k.
Av3k has won another tournament this year, the ESWC 2007!
Toxiq was at the WSVG in Dallas at the time of the ESWC, giving av3k an easier ride than first imagined. Av3k was pushed by 2nd-place Cooller quite hard, narrowly missing out 15 : 12 on the first map and 18 : 14 on the second.
This is one of Coollers' and winz's biggest achivements in Quake 4 competitions to date.
The prize money in this years ESWC nearly doubles that of the WSVG's, which makes me wonder why toxiq didn't come to this instead of the WSVG. Oh well, I'll have to wait another day for a av3k vs. toxiq final. Or...the way Coollers going...he could be joining them too.
With deep regret, Q4.Jolt have been forced to reduce the amount of servers we can provide to you.
We've had to trim 3 servers away from our previous server list. It now looks like...
213.208.119.119:28004 - jolt.co.uk - (v 1.4.2) DM #1
213.208.119.119:28005 - jolt.co.uk - (v 1.4.2) DM #2 (Popular Maps)
213.208.119.120:28005 - jolt.co.uk - (v 1.4.2) CTF #1
213.208.119.120:28004 - jolt.co.uk - (v 1.4.2) Q4Max FFA
213.208.119.120:28008 - jolt.co.uk - (v 1.4.2) Q4Max Duel
213.208.119.119:28006 - jolt.co.uk - (v 1.0) DM #3
213.208.119.119:28007 - jolt.co.uk - (v 1.4.2) Demo - #Q4.Jolt
The above servers are by far the most busiest that we provide, all ranking in the top 40 busiest in the world. Apologies to those who used the CTF #2, Q4Max CA, Q4Max Tourney and Duel Q4TV servers in the past.
You will be able to check the live status' of all of the above servers on the Server List page.
Av3k won 2 - 1 in the final against toxic, proving that the impossible can be done. This hasn't seemed to of fazed toxic, who has stated that he will be going to other tournaments "to win".
Noteable congratulations to GaRpY from Q4.DML clan Dignitas who came joint 7th and therefore winning £750.
There is another WSVG coming up in Dallas, Texas, where toxic has confirmed his attendance. Alongside the coming gotfrag tournament too, he's a busy man. We'll keep you posted.
Currently we're running a slightly a slightly restricted server list.
This is whilst we undergo some short term maintenance, which will possibly be ongoing until the middle of this week.
UPDATE: Maintenance finished.
During this time, we will be making changes to the .120 box (servers beginning 213.208.119.120...), which runs Q4Max FFA, Q4Max CA, Q4TV, Q4Max Tourney, Q4Max Duel, 1.4.2 Demo and apologize for any minor disruption during this time.
We're pretty good and try to keep all maintenanec changes at 'Non-Peak' times, so chances are you won't even notice we're doing these changes. These changes will allow us to provide you with a more reliable service in the longer run.
I will post on the site when the maintenance is complete, in the meantime you will be able to check the live status' of all of the above servers on the Server List page.
Quite a few alterations are already proving to be good moves!
Recently id and Q4Max have kept Kleeks (in particular) and myself very busy with updates and changes.
Along with the latest releases, we have decided to make numerous changes to the servers we provide to you.
Without further ado, here is the latest list we offer to you:

213.208.119.120:28009 - jolt.co.uk - (v 1.4.2) Demo - #Q4.Jolt
We have updated the previous 1.3 and 1.4.1 servers to 1.4.2, along with updating the Q4Max servers to 0.78d, other changes include...
After seeing that CTF #1 is our busiest server, we have added another (CTF #2) to hopefully allow more to be able to play. With 1.4.2, we see the return of the DM #2 Popular Maps server - incorperating some CMP maps in it's rotation. DM #1's map rotation has also changed to include some CMP maps. We also now offer Q4TV, with 20 viewing spaces, for our Q4Max Duel server. With the latest 1.4.2 Demo release, we're also now hosting a server running this to hopefully aid expansion of our belovid Quake 4.
As a result of these changes, we have removed the Q4Max CTF and the private League servers. Also, servers previously running 1.3 are now 1.4.2 (uniting us all once again :D).
You will be able to check the live status' of all of the above servers on the Server List page.
An updated version of the Q4 Multiplayer Demo ahoy!
Following closely behind the release of the QUAKE 4 1.4.2 Point Release Patch, the QUAKE 4 1.4.2 Multiplayer Demo is now available for download. The new Multiplayer Demo comes with three maps, VERTICON (q4xtourney2), OVER THE EDGE (q4dm7) and SPEED TRAP (q4ctf3) for your enjoyment.
The QUAKE 4 1.4.2 Multiplayer Demo is not compatible with any other versions of QUAKE 4. Therefore, players will only be able to connect and play against other QUAKE 4 1.4.2 Demo users.
We'll look into hosting a demo server with the 1.4.2 MP Demo, keep a close eye!
In the meantime, feel free to download the new demo off Q4.Jolt here.
Read a couple of posts down if you missed the quake 4 1.4.2 pr release ...
queue cheesy 'waiting for a bus and 2 come along' analagy. No sooner have we had the release, we get another. Whilst not catastrophic bugs, the q4max team have seen fit to tweak a couple of things they didn't quite have working correctly
Using the opportunity to slip a couple of other fixes in, they now present us with q4max v0.78d
this ones easier to list, although you can see previous changelogs here
chg: net_clientPredictWeaponSwitch defaults to 0
fix: "scoreboard bug" with spectators shown as in game after changing mid
fix: spectimers no longer vanish after a serverMapRestart
minor revisions are not a preffered route (a sentiment echoed by the devs I am sure) - but the spectimers were a welcome new addition, and i am sure everyone appreciates the efforts made to ensure these are working correctly. Autodl gaurantees there's no real loss of continuity for people, and many of you will have already joined our updated servers and grabbed the required files :)
Hot on the heels of 1.4.2 (read below) we see max scrumminess
Like a nice fine wine to bring out the flavour in a good strong cheese, we have the latest release from the q4max country vineyard - flavour 0.78c. Which combines with the 1.4.2 pr to give us something special
As with the pr, theres been a few 078 version releases, each increment offering optimisations and improvements - and 0.78c seems to be ticking all the right boxes
its hard to do the full changelog justice in such a confined space, so I will concentrate on some of the 0.78c revisions ...(Full changelog)
add: Tickrate is now mode-controlled. Core default is 60 (duel 90)
add: Spectators can now see respawn timers for powerups, armor, and the MH.
add: NetworkStats command
chg: Tweaked gladiator rail effect
fix: Coach now able to cycle views when team is speclocked
fix: Speclocking a team should now force uninvited specs to view something else
Its hard to overemphasize this release, combined with the 1.4.2 pr the game is looking in good shape - the moment I joined a server, it was clear someone up there liked me :)
All the faffing around with split pr's while 1.4.X went through its beta tests, has been well worth the wait.
